BLE CURTAINS ARE THE FIRST AND ONLY CURTAINS TO ACHIEVE FULL UL CERTIFICATION
Since 2003 BLE Smoke and Fire Curtains have been working alongside our US distributors US Smoke and Fire Curtain to achieve full UL certification for our smoke and fire curtains.
Further to our attainment of the relevant sections of UL10 B & UL 10 C along with the UL864 standard for our control equipment, BLE successfully achieved UL10D in April 2009.
UL saw the need to create a comprehensive new standard which incorporates all the sections of relevancy to smoke and fire curtains, and have worked closely alongside BLE to create the new UL10D certification
Further to this BLE took their equipment to Underwriters Laboratories’ Chicago Headquarters once again in August 2009 and submitted it to a test for UL1784 to obtain the S or smoke seal rating.
Once again the test was a resounding success far exceeding all expectations.
BLE are currently the only company in the world that can offer smoke and fire curtains fully certified to UL 10B, UL 10C, and UL 10D as well as UL1784 for our smoke-seal products.
Our success with UL is yet another demonstration of the unrivalled levels of quality which make BLE systems the products of choice throughout the United States and worldwide.

BLE ARE THE FIRST CHOICE FOR FIRE PROTECTION IN SCOTLAND
Eurocentral is one of Scotland's key commercial developments extending over an area of some 650 acres.
Bowmer & Kirkland, the main contractor of this prestigious development, chose BLE to provide the fire curtains for the primary office building and two of the smaller blocks.
This huge office building required fire curtain protection to its entire 3rd floor atria incorporating several hundred linear metres of curtains specifically designed to protect the building and its occupants from the damaging and potentially life-threatening spread of hot smoke in a fire situation.
A particularly striking feature of this building is a large central void to which BLE have installed large 12m drop curtains.
The buildings are now complete and ready to be handed over but not before the official opening ceremony which will be attended by members of the Scottish Parliament.
JOHN LEWIS CHOOSES BLE TO PROTECT LANDMARK CARDIFF STORE
On 21 August Wates Retail handed over the keys of the new John Lewis Department store in Cardiff.
As the first John Lewis store ever to be built in Wales, this new 280,000 square foot store, their largest outside of London, is the flagship of the new St David’s Shopping Centre and with its striking design is a landmark building on The Hayes.
BLE’s partnership programme with John Lewis meant that we were called upon by Wates Retail to provide a comprehensive solution to the smoke and fire protection within the store.
A series of smoke curtains to all floors around the atria were installed using the BLE-JLP detail required in all John Lewis stores which has been specifically designed for easy and efficient maintainability.
The aesthetically striking prow posed a unique smoke protection challenge. BLE, in conjunction with Ericsson Architects, Lateral Technologies and Wates, produced a unique and compliant system to seamlessly integrate with the design and mechanical requirements of this feature.
BLE also provided the solution to concerns regarding fire protection on the link bridge between JLP and St David’s Shopping Centre by designing and installing a bespoke BLE Fire Curtain to the JLP side of the bridge.
BLE CURTAINS SAFEGUARD JLP BLUEWATER
The introduction of a 16,500 square foot Waitrose Food Hall to the basement of the John Lewis anchor store in Bluewater, Kent necessitated a complete redesign of the existing fire and smoke strategy.
The establishment of a new trading area and escalator penetrations meant that smoke control needed to be introduced to both the new basement atria and the existing ground floor with all the additional complications of working in an open and trading store.
As JLP’s preferred partner for smoke and fire control, BLE along with Wates Retail were asked to undertake these works and complete them without hindering the day to day trading and whilst fulfilling a demanding programme to tight deadlines.
The project was opened on time with our successfully installed and commissioned smoke protection system.
